Short version
117 is committed to keeping this site usable for as many visitors as possible. An
accessibility toolbar (the icon in the bottom-right corner of every page) lets you turn
off motion effects, switch to high contrast, underline links, use a plainer font, and
enlarge text. If something on the site is still hard for you to use, tell us — see
"Contact" below.
Standard aimed for
This site is built toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, which is also the basis of Israeli Standard 5568. It's a portfolio built and maintained by one person, not a large organization, so it's worked on as an ongoing effort rather than a one-time certified audit — this page will be kept honest about where it currently falls short.
What's in place
- An accessibility toolbar on every page of the main site: reduce motion, high contrast, underlined links, a plainer readable font, and three text-size steps.
- "Reduce motion" turns off the animated hero effects (the glitch/flicker "117" logo, its sound and synthesized voice, and its idle drifting) as well as general page transitions — on top of automatically respecting your device's own "reduce motion" setting if you already have one turned on system-wide.
- Page zoom / pinch-to-zoom is never disabled — the site doesn't lock the viewport, so your browser's or phone's own zoom always works too.
- Semantic, structured markup and a keyboard-reachable navigation bar and link set.
- Sufficient color contrast in the site's normal (non-toolbar) state for its body text; the high-contrast toolbar option goes further for low-vision visitors.
Known limitations
Being upfront about what isn't fully solved yet:
- The hero's animated logo effects, and a handful of experimental pages under /lab, are visual/audio demos built as canvas or WebGL graphics — they aren't readable by a screen reader. The "117" text itself remains in the page's real markup underneath, and "Reduce motion" turns the animated versions off entirely.
- Process videos attached to individual works don't currently have captions or transcripts.
- Some decorative touches (a flying bird/bat, a blinking "GAMES" button the artist specifically wants to always blink) are intentionally left out of "Reduce motion," since they're calm/low-risk compared to the glitch effects and one is a deliberate design choice, not an oversight.
Using the toolbar
Tap the round icon in the bottom-right corner of any page to open it. Each setting is remembered on your device (via local storage, the same technical mechanism described on the Privacy page) so you don't have to re-enable it on every visit. "Reset" clears everything back to default.
